JAMES 4:13-15 BIBLE VERSE OF THE DAY

James 4:13-15 (NIV) - Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”

Today’s commentary by Dave Whitehead, Senior Pastor, GraceNYC.org

James reminds us that we are not in charge of our future. This is not a doctrine to avoid planning as much as it is the antidote to the anxiety that we feel when we try to control things that we ultimately can’t control. We are not the masters of the universe, and when we think that we are dysfunction usually follows. So trust in the God who sees your every need, and humble yourself about what you can or can’t do. You’ll find a peace that will let you think clearer about today because you have let go of the illusion that you have tomorrow under your control.
