The Benefits of Salvation: The Gift of the Holy Spirit
Romans 5:5b
by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
Please also consider, 1 Corinthians 6:19: "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own." We know the Corinthians were a carnal group of people, yet God gave them the Holy Spirit -- with no conditions attached -- when they believed. That is so incredible to me!
This is what Jesus said about the Holy Spirit:
John 14:26: "But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you."
John 15:26: "When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me."
And in John 16:13-14: "But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you."
In our passage today, I think Paul has made it pretty clear the Holy Spirit is not only given by God to all believers, but has a defined purpose. It is also this same Holy Spirit who makes God's love real for us. God has invested in His relationship with us -- He sacrificed His one and only Son to redeem our sin -- and has given us the Holy Spirit who testifies about this truth. Now that's real love -- blood poured out on the Cross of Calvary for you and me.
The sixth "Benefit of Salvation" is the gift of the Holy Spirit.
