ENCOURAGEMENT FOR THE DAY

ARE YOU TOO NEAR TO WHERE YOU GOT IN? 

Gipsy Smith used to tell a story of a young couple with whom he once stayed. They had an only child to whom they were devoted.

One night in summertime a thud was heard on the floor of the room above. Both parents realized their little son had tumbled out of bed, and hurried to the rescue. No harm, however, was done, and the next morning Mr. Smith questioned the little fellow about the noise he had heard. When asked why he tumbled out of bed, he replied, "'Cos I stayed too near where I got in."

Many people who “join the church” soon drift away because they don’t go any further. They are attracted to the love and forgiveness Christ offers, but they stay “too near where they got in,” and don’t delve into deeper Bible Study, prayer, sharing Christ with others, fellowship, or worship.
