LAYING ON OF HANDS

From speaking in tongues to laying on of hands. Our first scripture shall include both. Acts 19:4-6 Paul said, ‘John's baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.’ On hearing this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied."

Jesus healed by laying His hands on some and some He did not. If we go back to the Old Testament we can read where the prophet of God laid down on the young boy to bring him back from death. 2 Kings 4:34 And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and he stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm.

Laying on of hands has been around for a long time. Some have tried to buy the gift such as Simon; Acts 8:18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money.

Laying on of hands is not just for healing. It is seen as a Covenant Rite showing a divine blessing or special form of recognition, to confirm a birthright and protection, and a transfer of authority.

Acts 10: 44-46 "While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God?"

Now to the good part. Whom should lay hands on whom? Just as with anything else we should be careful who lays hands on us. Just as all that preach are not called by God not all are to lay hands on others.

There is a Spirit that we call the Spirit of Discernment. It lets you know right from wrong, good from bad. The dictionary says it is the act or process of exhibiting keen insight and good judgment. We need to pray and ask God for this spirit to be strong in our life.

1 Timothy 5:22 "Do not be hasty in the laying on of hands, and do not share in the sins of others. Keep yourself pure"

Laying on of hands has no power in itself. Laying on of hands is only used by God when it is done in agreement with God's Word.

Acts 13:3 Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them..."

Briefly here I want to mention something. If you ever find yourself in a position were someone is about to lay hands on you and it doesn't feel right, please remove yourself. Yes I have walked out of a prayer line. Do not jump to get in a prayer line, be led by the Lord if this is where you need to go for prayer.

God Bless Indeed

"... charge you before God
and the Lord Jesus Christ
and the elect angels,
that you observe these things without prejudice,
doing nothing with partiality.
Do not lay hands on anyone hastily,
nor share in other people's sins;
keep yourself pure.

- 1 Timothy 5:21-22

I found a wonderful saying today while researching.
"God doesn't call the equipped; He equips the called."
