ROSE AND LINDA'S BLOG DID HE {JESUS} HAVE A WIFE?
Did He Have a wife? That question brought a fast, "well sure He did and He still does" to my mind. What brought this to my attention is the December 17, 2012 copy of Newsweek, which included a article titled 'The Myths of Jesus'. Harvard University professor Karen King unveiled a newly discovered 'Gospel' fragment, in September, that she entitles "The Gospel of Jesus Wife'. The size of a credit card, it contains eight broken lines of writing, believed to be written in the language of ancient Egypt, called Coptic. In one line it says Jesus mentions "my wife". Nothing has been proven yet, many believe it to be a forgery, and scientific analysis is not complete.
As we do with all questions we turn to the True word of God, the Bible. Both Old and New Testament give us scriptures that refer to Him as the Bridegroom, or us as the bride. I am including only the New Testament written here; scriptures for the Old testament listed below.
He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled. [John 3:29]
And Jesus said unto them, Can the friends of the bridegroom fast, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.[Mark 2:19]
Matthew 9:15, Mark 2:19 and Luke 5:34, the Apostles are referred to as the friends, guests, or children of the Bridegroom, Jesus Christ.
"Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.".[Mt 25:1-13]
Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. [Revelation 19:7]
And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. ... And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife. And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, [Revelation 21:2,9-10]
And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. [Revelation 22:17]
Isaiah 61:10; 62:5; Jeremiah 33:11
Did Jesus have a wife? Yes and let him that hears and is thirsty come because as He did, He still does and He is coming back for His bride.
God Bless
