BABYLON, Part Four

Year 581 B C Nebuchadnezzar came again, this is five years after the burning of Jerusalem, took another 745 captive (Jeremiah 52:30), this was after Jeremiah and a large group had already fled to Egypt (Jeremiah 43). This is when the ministry of Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Daniel, three great prophets began.

100 years before it was predicated by Isaiah and Micah (Isaiah 39:6; Micah 4:10) that Judah would be in captivity by the Babylonians. Jeremiah said (Jeremiah 25:11-12) it would last for 70 years.

After 400 years, David’s earthly kingdom was ended. A spiritual revival was brought thru the arrival of Christ.

The destruction of Jerusalem could have been accomplished in 20 years by Nebuchadnezzar if he had wanted anything but tribute. Also, Daniel had been with him from the beginning and was friend and adviser to the king. Daniel may have had a lot to do with Nebuchadnezzar taking so long. But, because Judah made the alliance with Egypt caused Nebuchadnezzar to wipe Jerusalem off the map.

Chapter 4 of Daniel, we find Nebuchadnezzar having his dream of the tree. Daniel tells him the meaning, Nebuchadnezzar goes insane. Lives with and eats grass like the animals. Daniel also tells him he is going to lose his kingdom. He regains his sanity after admitting that God is the only Ruler. Nebuchadnezzar dies 561 B.C. In Chapter 5, the kingdom is taken over by King Belshazzar.
