TO BE OR NOT TO BE: A CHRISTIAN

The Bible mentions in three scriptures [ Acts 11:26; Acts 26:28; and 1 Peter 4:16] the calling of those that believe in Christ Jesus as Christians. It would be interesting here to note that these verses refer to the followers of Christ who did not acknowledge the emperor of Rome.

The word Christian is therefore first mentioned by Peter and Paul in the New testament giving us reason to believe that the term did in fact start at that time. Peter was an disciple under Christ while He was here on earth, whereas Paul came to His belief in Christ after Christ had died and risen.

Both believed that Jesus Christ was the One whom was spoken of in the Old Testament. Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign: Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

This is the Christian that was spoken of by Peter and Paul. Christian being One that walked and talked as Christ did while here on earth.

The word christian now does not have the same meaning. A christian now is considered to be anyone that does believe in Jesus, whether they believe in His virgin birth, or agree with His teachings.

Denominationalism is the ideology which views some or all christian groups as being versions of the same regardless of their distinguishing labels. Some christian groups believe themselves to be the only right 'church.'

Without being able to define christianity how then can we determine what christianity is? When all groups are put together under the heading of being 'Christian', even when we know that they do not agree or line up with the teaching of Christ Jesus as it is presented in the Bible without change, do we then want to be called 'Christian.'

To us to be a Christian means to follow after the teachings of Christ. Not to change His word to suit our own lifestyle, which is what many churches are doing now. We are aware of the changes that have happened with the translations's of the Bible through all the many years since it was first written down from stories that were passed around for many years. This is why we encourage all to pray seek the will of God, ask for His wisdom and knowledge in understanding His Word. To seek after His face, not to accept any mans word for what the lord intends for us to believe. To put out the fleece and ask God 'What do You mean by this?' Believe us he likes it when we ask.

God Bless
