FACTS VERSUS FANTASY

Romans 4:19
Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead--since he was about a hundred years old--and that Sarah's womb was also dead.

Paul tells us: "Without weakening his faith, he [Abraham] faced the fact[s]..." I truly believe that within this phrase lies a very important Biblical concept regarding the necessity of dealing with reality -- while at the same time believing God can and will deliver on His promises (which is not always when or how we think He should).
Perhaps it's the "Great Recession" (as our current world economic predicament has been labeled), or something else, but it seems to me more and more people are unwilling to face and deal with facts. For example, many continue to live in economic fantasyland, whereby God will divinely create income to make mortgage payments for a house they couldn't afford when it was purchased; or sustain a lifestyle fueled by an abundance of credit no longer available. Think about it: Wouldn't God be sending us the wrong message if He created money to solve our predicaments? It would be like He's saying: "Go ahead, spend money and live beyond your means -- be irresponsible. And when you get into trouble just pray -- I'll bail you out."
So how do we -- without weakening our faith -- face facts? I think God wants us to address the truth of our situation -- not sugar coat it -- so when and how God (in his sovereignty) determines to solve it we do not consider the source of our solution to be anything other than He.

Are you waiting for your divine bailout? Have you faced your economic facts of life? Can you stare into the reality of a financial crisis and acknowledge how bad it truly is, yet still believe and trust God? God wants us to place Him first (Matthew 22:26-27). Do you need to reorder your priorities?
