TITHE OR NOT TO TITHE

There are those though that would look at some scriptures and say that no we do not need to pay tithes. The 7th Book of Hebrews has been interpreted by many to show that we are not to pay tithes. We encourage you to read the entire book, for our purposes we will include the following verses.

Hebrews 7:
5And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:...12For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law... 16Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life... 19For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God...22By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament... 27Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself. 28For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.

Hebrews 7 compares the Old Covenant and the New, it shows that our relationship with God is different than those under the Law of Moses. By reading the chapter is it easy to see that one would feel that if we are in fact in a different relationship, then we do not need to follow that Law. By not following the Law then no we would not have to pay tithes.

Many say and it is true that Jesus did not say 'pay tithes'. That is right Jesus did not tell us to 'pay tithes', does that mean then that we are not to. This is just another reason why we encourage you to read, pray and ask God to open the Words of the Bible to you. Let us now look and see what Jesus did say.

Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. 19. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 22:21 They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.
Tithing after the law does not do away with the law, but establishes it.

Leviticus 27:30 "And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD'S: it is holy unto the LORD."

1 Samuel 15:22: "And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams."

I will close with this scripture for you to ponder on.

Revelation 3:18: "I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see."
