ENCOURAGEMENT FOR THE DAY
An Object of Wrath?
Romans 9:22
What if God, choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath--prepared for destruction?
What if God, choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath--prepared for destruction?
Sometimes the way God works is mysterious; other times magnificent; but one thing we know for certain -- He is always right. Previously, Paul made it very clear that God is free to act in His own sovereignty. Now he tells us that God chooses to deal with us in patience, rather than the wrath we deserve.
Think about it: If you made something and it rebelled and sinned against you, wouldn't it warrant destruction? Then wouldn't God be correct in exercising immediate judgment against all of us? But He hasn't. Why? Because He has chosen to deal with us as the creations He loves and who have been given free will; not lifeless vessels of clay. His infinite kindness, patience, mercy, and love provide every opportunity -- to reveal any possibility -- that we might have of turning toward Him. Of obeying Him. Although God hates sin and will ultimately judge against it -- He continues to seek us -- offering His Son's life in exchange for ours.
Do you behave like an "object" that deserves wrath? A lifeless, spiritless vessel seeking to only satisfy fleshly desires? I hope not, but let's face it -- we all slip into sin from time to time. God knows our nature and He is always waiting with grace, mercy, and forgiveness for us to turn toward Him. Do you need to turn from sin and toward God right now? Will you ask for His forgiveness?
