THE UGLY SWAN

We have all heard the story of the ugly duck that grew into a beautiful swan, today I want to share with you a story about the plain girl who became beautiful. This is a true story.

Once upon a time there was a pastor who had a couple of children. The next to youngest was a plain and skinny child; she would be unnoticed in a room. She grew up married and had three daughters. The marriage did not last. In her thirty’s now she was still plain and skinny. It was hard, but she did the best she could.

One day a man came up to her and started to talk. He had watched her from a distance, saw how quite and shy she was. He, being a man of the world, thought he knew a good thing when he saw it. He plucked her off the vine. He took her to a stylist and got her hair and nails done. He took her shopping and dressed her in all the latest styles. He gave her a brand new Cadillac to drive. The ugly duckling had turned into a swan.

As the swan looked at herself in the mirror the teachings her father had gave her began to flow through her mind. She wanted so to do what was right, but the man of the world would have none of it. She did not want to go back to being plain and without, so alas she stayed with him.

She was and is miserable. We talk on occasion but less as time goes by. She leaves the man of the world, but she always goes back, as she cannot do for herself what he does.

I have always felt and still feel now that it is better to never have known the Lord then to know Him and leave Him. Deu 11:28 And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known. I know she is unhappy, but still she cannot let go. It is her choice even if it is the wrong one.

We do not need a man to make us happy, we do not need a man to make us complete. If we cannot be complete with Christ then surely adding a man to the picture will not make it better. And this is vise versa.

It is only in having a true relationship with Christ that we can then have a true and honest relationship with another. Think about that for a while.

God Bless,
