WHERE IS THE PROMISE

2 Peter 3:4-7 (King James Version) 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. 5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

Scoffers ask where is the promise? Jesus said Himself that He will return. Acts 15:16 After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up:.

Scoffers do not question if the great flood took place, no they say that since the fathers have fell asleep all things continue as they have from creation. They do not question, they just do not believe. Creation came about as the Lord spoke life into the world. When man angered God, He had Noah built an ark and only his family was preserved out of the entire world. God returned the earth to the beginning. Standing out of the water and in the water, being overflowed with water.

Can one be so ignorance as to overlook that, which has been so carefully recorded by the Jewish people for all these years? Things have not always been the same. What God did do and say was promise that by water the earth would never be completely destroyed again.

Genesis 9:12-17 (King James Version) 12 And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: 13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. 14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: 15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. 17 And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.

Scoffers make up beliefs and ignore facts that they do not want to accept. You cannot accept only what you want from God. He is right and if you disagree on any point, then you are wrong.

As we have wrote in the past Paul in good conscience lived the life he lived before his meeting with Christ on the road to Damascus. A scoffer though would have explained away what happened and went on about their business. Paul though received and changed his life. A scoffer is not willing to accept new knowledge or insight. There are Jewish records of the earth being destroyed, records that still exist today, preserved by the Jewish people.

How then do we know what to believe? By testing the scripture: studying, reading, praying, fasting and seeking God.

Scoffers are willingly ignorant. They refuse evidence that doesn’t serve their purpose. What they do not see themselves they do not believe, and explain away that which they do see.

Peter answers them that the course of nature was changed; that the earth was destroyed by water and he says it will be destroyed again by fire.

Where is the promise? It is right there in the Bible Rom 4:13 For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, [was] not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

For thought think about this, of old before the flood “standing out of the water and in the water.” Genesis 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. The earth was without form, darkness was upon the face of the deep, and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. The earth was destroyed by water the first time. The second time will be with fire, and fire is at the core of the earth. Does that give you food for thought?
God Bless,
