IN TIMES OF TROUBLE

WORD OF WISDOM
PRAYER ~ No rules are anywhere in Scripture laid down for the manner of prayer or the attitude to be assumed by the suppliant. There is mention made of kneeling in prayer (1 Kings 8:54; 2 Chronicles 6:13; Psalm 95:6; Isaiah 45:23; Luke 22:41; Acts 7:60; 9:40; Ephesians 3:14, etc.); of bowing and falling prostrate (Genesis 24:26, 52; Exodus 4:31; 12:27; Matthew 26:39; Mark 14:35, etc.); of spreading out the hands (1 Kings 8:22, 38, 54; Psalm 28:2; 63:4; 88:9; 1 Timothy 2:8, etc.); and of standing (1 Samuel 1:26; 1 Kings 8:14, 55; 2 Chronicles 20:9; Mark 11:25; Luke 18:11, 13).

I wake up in the morning and I pray
During the day I pray
Before meals I pray
Before bed I pray
In times of trouble
I pray harder

Is this true about you also? There have been times when it would cross my mind “if only I could have that effect whenever I pray.” When there is a problem that we know only God can answer and we need it now, we do pray different. We pray as though our very life depended on it, and the thing is our life depends on it everyday we open our eyes.

I am not proud of my prayer life. I do not and cannot spend enough time praying. But let the phone ring, or someone tell me someone has a need and that is it, I am ready willing and able. In times of trouble we do pray harder.

In Psalms we read many prayers and the ones in trouble are stronger. I have tried to get that much energy into day-to-day prayer and it just doesn’t happen. It is different when you know that right now there is a request that needs to go before God and it is urgent.

There are also areas in my life where I am stronger in my prayer life, then other areas. My faith is stronger in some areas then in others. Of course my faith is stronger now then it once was, and as I grow so does my faith, which in turn affects my prayer life.

When there is trouble though sometimes raises up inside that says NOW, there is a need. Sometime the prayer is short and then again I have been known to not answer the phone or door, and pray until I have peace.

Anyway I look at it I do believe that we pray stronger and harder when there is trouble.

God Bless,
