WE WANT A KING

WORD OF WISDOM
KING ~ This title is applied to God (1 Timothy 1:17), and to Christ, the Son of God (1 Timothy 6:15, 16; Matthew 27:11). The people of God are also called "kings" (Dan. 7:22, 27; Matthew 19:28; Revelation 1:6, etc.). Death is called the "king of terrors" (Job 18:14).

1 SAMUEL 8:5 And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations. 6 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD. 7 And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

The people wanted a king, and God gave them what they wanted. First though He told Samuel to let them know the consequences of having a king. Samuel tells them they will be conscripted, forced to do labor, they will be taxed, and will lose personal liberty. Nothing Samuel says changes their minds; God says, “Appoint them a king.”

As I read this I thought how blessed we are that we can vote for our elected officials. Then again, how many pray before voting? Well, maybe some do pray, but how many really seek the Lord, before going to the polls.

If we take the time to look at the people running for office and how they line up with the Word of God, it pretty much leaves us at a point where we have to ask God, because nobody running seems fit for the job.

How blessed we are that we have a King, the One and Only King. We have chosen Him, but He first choose us. We have a King that shares his throne with us. Everything that He has is for us, because He has adopted us into His family. He has set down a list of rules, and if we break one, we have only to go to Him with forgiveness and He washes it away. He provides all we need and many things that we desire.

We have a King! It doesn’t matter how bad things look here on earth, we can hold on to the promises that he has given us, and we can live forever with Him. What more could we ask for? We have The King.

God Bless,
