PSALMS 116

WORD OF WISDOM
LIGHT ~ The offspring of the divine command (Genesis 1:3). "All the more joyous emotions of the mind, all the pleasing sensations of the frame, all the happy hours of domestic intercourse were habitually described among the Hebrews under imagery derived from light" (1 Kings 11:36; Isaiah 58:8; Esther 8:16; Psalm 97:11). Light came also naturally to typify true religion and the felicity it imparts (Psalm 119:105; Isaiah 8:20; Matthew 4:16, etc.), and the glorious inheritance of the redeemed (Colossians 1:12; Revelation 21:23-25). God is said to dwell in light inaccessible (1 Timothy 6:16). It frequently signifies instruction (Matthew 5:16; John 5:35). In its highest sense it is applied to Christ as the "Sun of righteousness" (Malachi 4:2; Luke 2:32; John 1:7-9). God is styled "the Father of lights" (James 1:17). It is used of angels (2 Corinthians 11:14), and of John the Baptist, who was a "burning and a shining light" (John 5:35), and of all true disciples, who are styled "the light of the world" (Matthew 5:14).

PSALMS 116:12

What shall I render to the Lord, For all His benefits toward me?

What can I give back, make available, for what is due God for the good deeds, advantages, and kindly acts that He has given to me? Is possible for us to repay God for what He has done for us?

We know from scripture that God can raise people out of stones to praise Him. He already has angels standing around His throne doing just that, in fact. So does He need us to praise Him?

How then can we repay Him for all He has done and continues to do for us? Is there a price we can pay that will absolve us from our debt?

Does God in fact need us to do anything that He cannot do? No. God does not need a single one of us. No seriously He doesn’t. He wants us, to want Him.

He wants us to want Him more than anything in this world, or that this world has to offer. He wants us to desire Him with every core of our being. He wants us to want Him, and to lead others to want Him.

When we live a life that expresses our love of Christ, it radiates off of us. It is a light that attracts some and runs others away. Most of us remember that Sunday school song, This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine. That light draws people to us. That light is the goodness of God.

When we have something really, really good, we don’t want to hide it, we want to share it. The best repayment we can give to God is to tell others about Him. Let your light show and when others ask why your light is so bright, tell them where your light comes from.

What can we render to God in repayment for the price He paid for us? Let your light shine.

God Bless,
