AXE HEAD

WORD OF WISDOM
Tree of life ~ Stood also in the midst of the garden of Eden (Genesis 2:9; 3:22). Some writers have advanced the opinion that this tree had some secret virtue, which was fitted to preserve life. Probably the lesson conveyed was that life was to be sought by man, not in himself or in his own power, but from without, from Him who is emphatically the Life (John 1:4; 14:6). Wisdom is compared to the tree of life (Proverbs 3:18). The "tree of life" spoken of in the Book of Revelation (Revelation 2:7; 22:2, 14) is an emblem of the joys of the celestial paradise.

Today we are going to look at the this scripture, 2 Kings 6:5-6 5 But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed. I am sure we all know the story but lets look at it this way for a few minutes:

Many scholars believe the water was the Jordan River. That is one dirty river, so of course the iron or axe head couldn't be see with the naked eye. Verse 6: And the man of God (Elisha) said, Where fell it? And he showed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim. Did the feller of the tree run to get Elisha? Or did Elisha just come on up to the place on his own? The Bible doesn't say or at least I can't find it, but I believe that the feller ran to get the man of God in order to retrieve the iron, axe head. Being it was borrowed it was very important that the axe head be returned to the original owner. Either way they had to "go back" to get the axe head.

How many of yall have heard the ole timey saying, "you have to go back to the place where you dropped your axe head." The only way to go back is to repent of your sins, to be forgiven, to start at the place where you dropped your axe head, go thru whatever you are meant to go thru in order that you may get it right this time . Otherwise you will be making a lot of trips back to place you lost it. Elisha asked him "where fell it?" The man went back to the place it entered into the water.

Our original owner is who? We are descendants of Adam and Eve and as such we are borned into a world full of sin. The world borrows us for a time, a season, then we go back to our original owner, repent and get re born. Oh what a pleasant life we have then. How in the world can I say such a thing with all the trials and tribulations that we must face in our journey? Without those trials and tribulations, that God allows to come our way, how could we ever know the true love of our God, our Lord and Savior. How would we ever become strong enough to endure til the end? Because of these trials and tribulations we become stable and are able to say with a mighty shout, "I SHALL NOT BE MOVED." When the storms come we know who is guiding our lives and are able to be peaceful and at rest thru them as Jesus did.

I will leave you with this to think about...By this action the prophet pointed out that the sure word of God, which we had negligently lost by means of a tree, and were not in the way of finding again, we should receive anew by the dispensation of a tree, cross of Christ. For that the word of God is likened to an axe, John the Baptist declares [when he says] in reference to it in Matthew 3:10, “But now also is the axe laid to the root of the trees.” Jeremiah also says the same thing, Jeremiah 23:29 “The word of God cleaveth the rock as an axe.”

This word, then, what was hidden from us, did the dispensation1 of the tree make manifest, as I have already remarked. For as we lost it by means of a tree, by means of a tree again was it made manifest to all, showing the height, the length, the breadth, the depth in itself; and, as has observed, “Through the extension of the hands of a divine person the gathering together the peoples to one God.” So that as by means of a tree we were made debtors to God, [so also] by means of a tree we may obtain the remission of our debt.

For there were two hands, but there was one head in the middle, as there is but one God, who is above all, through all, and in us all.

God's Blessings to each of you,
