WORD OF WISDOM

CONTENTMENT - A state of mind in which one's desires are confined to his lot whatever it may be (1 Timothy 6:6; 2 Corinthians 9:8). It is opposed to envy (James 3:16), avarice (Hebrews 13:5), ambition (Proverbs 13:10), anxiety (Matthew 6:25, 34), and repining (1 Corinthians 10:10). It arises from the inward disposition, and is the offspring of humility, and of an intelligent consideration of the rectitude and benignity of divine providence (Psalm 96:1, 2; 145), the greatness of the divine promises (2 Peter 1:4), and our own unworthiness (Genesis 32:10); as well as from the view the gospel opens up to us of rest and peace hereafter (Romans 5:2).

COMPLACENCY

Matthew 11:28-29
28) Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29) Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Matthew 26:45
Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take [your] rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

It feels good to be satisfied and content in life, or is it? It depends on how we are in that satisfaction or contentment. We are to rest in the Lord, and surely that is a good thing. Matthew chapter 11:28,29; and 26:45 all speak of how He will give us rest; we shall find rest for our souls; and sleep and take rest. To rest we must be comfortable, right.

Comfortable is being in a state of comfort, sufficient, adequate. A condition of ease or well being. I also came across this, which I think is interesting. Comfort is derived from Latin and means strong also to strengthen. In the 19th century the meaning ‘at ease’ was developed. These weakened senses are the normal ones and the older meanings are obsolete.

Complaisance is an inclination to comply willingly with the wishes of others. Complacency is satisfaction or contentment and also smug self satisfaction.

When the strong and to strengthen were taken away and at ease came into the picture is where we run into problems.

To be at ease in the Lord or to be strong or strengthened in the Lord. I choose the later.

We have a tendency to become comfortable with the Lord, and in doing so we can also become comfortable in some of our life habits. Things that we know do not line up with the word of Christ, but out of habit we have become complacent in our actions and reactions.

When LJG and I do these columns we will come back later and say did you see that error. Even with spell check and two people proofing, we make mistakes. That is not what we are speaking of. We are addressing the issues of things in our life that we have done so long that we are comfortable and ‘God if He does cross our mind, will understand’.

Wrong, He desires that we grow in Him, and in doing so the new us that came into our being when we gave our life’s to Him, makes us uncomfortable in the things that do not line up with Him and His Word. When we choose to let our flesh override our Spirit and stay comfortable in the things of the world, we are in fact being complacent and hurting ourselves with stopping our own growth.

If I told you that I had a million dollars that belonged to you and it was right here in front of you, what would you do? I hope you said take it. The problem is when we hold on to the complacency in our life we are stopping our own blessings from coming to us. Now it is one thing for me to hold your money away from you, but quite another when you stop yourself from getting what belongs to you.

By being comfortable in things of this world that we know are not right, we are in fact stopping ourselves from receiving our blessings and being all that God intends for us to be.

My questions to you today are these: Are you comfortable in the Lord? Are you at ease in your walk for Christ? Are you strong and strengthened in your walk for Christ? Are you complacent in your walk with the Lord?

As always the decision is yours.

God Bless,

WORD OF WISDOM

WORD - (Gr. Logos), one of the titles of our Lord, found only in the writings of John (John 1:1-14; 1 John 1:1; Revelation 19:13). As such, Christ is the revealer of God. His office is to make God known. "No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him" (John 1:18). This title designates the divine nature of Christ. As the Word, he "was in the beginning" and "became flesh." "The Word was with God " and "was God," and was the Creator of all things (Comp. Psalm 33: 6; 107:20; 119:89; 147:18; Isaiah 40:8).

WHEN WORDS WON'T COME

What do we do when we can't seem to find the words to say to others? Even sometimes to ourselves. Why aren't they there? Why can't someone help us? Some of us turn to God and start praying and asking for the answers. Some turn to drinking and drugs. That answer is really no answer at all. All that does is take your money, gives you a high for a little while and then you need more money to get more with. Never ending circle. That seems like the life. Well, let me tell you it ain't. How many people have been hurt along the road that you are traveling? What we do not only affects us but others around us. Mainly our loved ones and close friends.

No, I am not going to get started on that subject. Our main object here is to let others know that even God's people do dumb, hurtful and mean spirited things as well.

I know from personal experience that a lot, maybe even more than a lot, that I did in my life, even though I thought it was right was only wrong. I hurt the very ones that I loved the most in the world. I honestly didn't realize that I was doing this. I have asked for and been granted forgiveness from most of them. Those I can remember anyway. But the hurt runs so deep that it can't be forgotten, must less forgiven. I understand that now.

We will reap what we sow. How true those words are.

Now it is my turn to reap the same things that I sowed. The loneliness, the hurt, the mean spiritedness and most of all the rejection. Even though rejection was not my intent that is what it turned out to be.

We can't go back and change the past. All we can do is do what is right for this day. Tomorrow isn't promised to us by God. We only have the now. Lets try to make it a now for God. I know God has forgiven me. Now I need to forgive myself. Ain't as easy as it sounds.

The only one I can blame for all that I am reaping is MYSELF. In time, His time, I know that forgiveness can and will be done. The one who did the original hurting ends up hurting the most. They have lost everything.

Please remember that when I say these three little words, 'I LOVE YOU' it comes from the very deepest part of my heart and soul.

God's blessings to each of you,

SATURDAY AND SUNDAY EDITORIALS

Celebration of Life

In celebration today of the anniversary of the home going of Ted we chose to rerun his memorial and to share a glimpse of our lives connection to this wonderful man. As a child I knew I would marry him but with age came the knowledge that my Uncle was out of bounds and I released him to the first love of his life LJG. This marriage lasted 5 and half years and 3 babies later.

Even tho I moved 1500 miles away the Lord let all 3 of us come to know love would return us to each other. LJG and I were very close for 7 years and tho we were separated for 30 years our love of family caused me to do a search where I found her. Our continued love for each other and our rooted love of Ted concreted the bond that had been with us for years past. Without Ted we would not be as we are now. We are Jonathan and David very much in love in Christ. Because God brought us together at the time He did we were able to mourn together the loss of our loved one.

It is very hard for people to understand that divorce, separation and miles will not diminish a love that God has planted at least not in our lives. Tho we go on with our lives living fully and completely the ties that were made could never be broken. So today we salute you, we thank you for the time we had and the times we know we will have when we meet again in the sweet by and by.

MEMORIAL TO TED OUR FALLEN KNIGHT

FALLEN KNIGHT

Our knight in shining armor has fallen
He has gone home to be with the Lord
For a while we shall not see him, for awhile
Then on horseback he shall ride again
And we shall ride with him
In heaven there is no marriage
Nor any given in marriage
So there we will meet again
As brother and sisters we shall ride
We shall walk beside the waters
And laugh and be happy
All sorrow done away

Our knight in shining armor
Whom God used to bring us together
Did not know ever just how the Lord used him
We know and thank our Jesus
For what Your hands did do
In bringing the three of us together
Lord we ask that you show him
Just what part he played
In taking the messes we all made
And bringing life out of it
Rest in peace OUR TED
Tomorrow is but a breath away
And we shall ride with you in Glory Land
With Jesus by our sides.

I WILL AWAYS BE THERE

Heb 13:5
[Let your] conversation [be] without covetousness; [and be] content with such things as ye have: for he hath said , I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

The design of Christ in giving himself for us, is, that he may purchase to himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works; and true religion is the strongest bond of friendship. Here are earnest exhortations to several Christian duties, especially contentment. The sin opposed to this grace and duty is covetousness, an over-eager desire for the wealth of this world, with envy of those who have more than ourselves. Having treasures in heaven, we may be content with mean things here. Those who cannot be so, would not be content though God raised their condition. Adam was in paradise, yet not contented; some angels in heaven were not contented; but the apostle Paul, though abased and empty, had learned in every state, in any state, to be content. Christians have reason to be contented with their present lot. This promise contains the sum and substance of all the promises; I will never, no, never leave thee, no, never forsake thee. In the original there are no less than five negatives put together, to confirm the promise: the true believer shall have the gracious presence of God with him, in life, at death, and for ever. Men can do nothing against God, and God can make all that men do against his people, to turn to their good.

God's Blessings to each of you,

LIP - Generally of physical life (Genesis 2:7; Luke 16:25, etc.); also used figuratively (1) for immortality (Hebrews 7:16); (2) conduct or manner of life (Romans 6:4); (3) spiritual life or salvation (John 3:16, 17, 18, 36); (4) eternal life (Matthew 19:16, 17; John 3:15); of God and Christ as the absolute source and cause of all life (John 1:4; 5:26, 39; 11:25; 12:50).

HOW MUCH DO WE TRUST?

Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Matt 4:23
And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.

John 11:4
When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.

Mal 4:2
But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

2 Samuel 22:3 & 31
The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.
31) As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.

John 5:39
Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

Mal 2:7
For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.

Matt 14:35
And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased;

How much do we trust the Lord? We are all with faults, and I am hoping as I search myself, that I can encourage you to do the same.

Are there areas of our life that we do what we can in, instead of doing what God says because we do not see a way? It is impossible for us to do something so we cut short on what the word says to do?

Do we not accept the healing scriptures because we feel pain? What are we suppose to do. We speak the Word into our life and step out in fact and do what the word says. We put a smile on our face and go forward. Oh, now let’s be real when we hurt we hurt. How do I smile when I am in pain? Believe me I know pain. We speak against it, we tell it to go, that the word says I am healed and I am going to say it and believe it. I will not speak of the pain, I will speak of what the Lord says is mine. Healing is mine says the Lord. He does not say pain is mine. LJG and I both know pain and doctors. We sit here each day LJG on a breathing machine and I with pain burning through my body. Do we accept it, no we believe God for the healing He said belongs to us and we will believe it in spite of not seeing it. We will not give up, He said it, and it is so.

Now lets go a step farther. Do you pay tithes and offerings on all that you receive? Are do you pay the bills and give God what is left over? You are putting Him in second place if you do. God says to bring the first fruits, a tenth to His warehouse and He will supply all your needs. If your needs are not being met, look in your own wallet first. How can we expect God to treat us any different then we treat Him? OUCH. We do reap what we sow.

Living for the Lord is not hard, we make it hard. How, because we do not know His scripture as we should, and we do not know how to use His words in our life’s. God’s Word cannot lie. If it did God would destroy God. He cannot sin. So if we will take the time and look up His word on any and everything in our life [and believe me it is in there] He will give us His own words to say to Him. Lord You said it and I am speaking it aloud into my life until I see it. That is how you build up faith.

I challenge you to stop, yes stop trying so hard to study the word by tearing it apart and get back to the simple basics. Think about when you where first saved, no body could tell you God couldn’t do something, you knew in your heart that He could and would. But as you started going back into your normal worldly routine, and people started saying that is impossible, you started unbelieving what had been planted in you at your conversion. Think about it!

Get a concordance a good one, I strongly recommend Strongs and whatever it is you are facing look it up. Healing it is in there, prosperity it is in there, and wild children it is in there. Find a couple of scriptures and write them down start your morning saying them out loud, repeat them throughout the day. Plant them as you would seed, and act on them. Picture the situation, as you believe God for it to be. Speak nothing negative about it. And if you slip and we all do, repent and speak what God says, and smile be full of joy while you do. Take just one area in your life and do this and then no matter how hard you get attacked, because the devil will attack, stand your ground, take back what belongs to you whatever it is.

Heavenly Father, I think You for wisdom and knowledge, I thank You for showing me how to get the most out of my life. I thank You for raising me above what others think is normal into a God guided life with all my supplies and needs met. I thank You for taking the messes I have made in my life and straightening them up and showing me how to do it Your way not mine. Amen So Be It.

God Bless

WORD OF WISDOM

TALE - Hebrews hegeh, "a thought;" "meditation" (Psalm 90:9); meaning properly "as a whisper of sadness," which is soon over, or "as a thought." The LXX. and Vulgate render it "spider;" the Authorized Version and Revised Version, "as a tale" that is told. In Job 37:2 this word is rendered "sound;" Revised Version margin, "muttering;" and in Ezek. 2:10, "mourning."

NO THOUGHT

Psa 119:59
I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies.

Psa 139:2
Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.

Pro 24:9
The thought of foolishness [is] sin: and the scorner [is] an abomination to men.

Pro 30:32
If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, [lay] thine hand upon thy mouth.

Mat 6:25
Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

Mat 6:27
Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

Mat 6:28
And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

Mat 6:31
Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

Mat 6:34
Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day [is] the evil thereof.

Luke 12:22
And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.

Luke 12:25 - 26
And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?
If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?

2 Corn 10:5
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

While others thought meanly, and spake scornfully of the apostle, he had low thoughts, and spake humbly of himself. We should be aware of our own infirmities, and think humbly of ourselves, even when men reproach us. The work of the ministry is a spiritual warfare with spiritual enemies, and for spiritual purposes. Outward force is not the method of the gospel, but strong persuasions, by the power of truth and the meekness of wisdom. Conscience is accountable to God only; and people must be persuaded to God and their duty, not driven by force. Thus the weapons of our warfare are very powerful; the evidence of truth is convincing. What opposition is made against the gospel, by the powers of sin and Satan in the hearts of men! But observe the conquest the word of God gains. The appointed means, however feeble they appear to some, will be mighty through God. And the preaching of the cross, by men of faith and prayer, has always been fatal to idolatry, impiety, and wickedness.

God's Blessings to each of you,

THE BIBLE

Pope Damasus I assembled the first list of books of the Bible at the Council of Rome in 382 A.D. He commissioned Saint Jerome to produce a reliable and consistent text by translating the original Greek and Hebrew texts into Latin. This translation became known as the Latin Vulgate Bible and was declared by the Church to be the only authentic and official Bible.

Important Characteristics of early Bible texts

The use of chapters and verses were not introduced until the Middle Ages and later. The system used in English was developed by Robert Stephenus (as noted below)
Early manuscripts of the letters of Paul and other New Testament writings show no punctuaction whatsoever. The punctuation was added later by other editors, according to their own understanding of the text. (Punctuation can shape and change the meaning of a passage.)

Original language

The New Testament was probably completely composed in Koine Greek, the language of the earliest manuscripts. Some scholars believe that parts of the Greek New Testament (in particular, the Gospel of Matthew) are actually a translation of an Aramaic or Hebrew original. Of these, a small number accept the Syriac Peshitta as representative of the original. See further Aramaia primacy.

The Septuagint (Greek translation, from Alexandria in Egypt under the Ptolemies) was generally abandoned in favour of the Masoretic text as the basis for translations of the Old Testament into Western languages from Martin Luther's Protestant Bible to the present day; already Jerome's Vulgate was based on the Hebrew.

The earliest surviving complete manuscript of the entire Bible is the Codex Amiatinus, a Latin Vulgate edition produced in eighth century England at the double monastery of Wearmouth-Jarrow.

The earliest printed edition of the New Testament in Greek appeared in 1516 from the Froben press. It was compiled by Desiderius Erasmus on the basis of the few recent Greek manuscripts, all of Byzantine tradition, at his disposal, which he completed by translating from the Vulgate parts for which he did not have a Greek text. He produced four later editions of the text.

Erasmus was a Roman Catholic, but his preference for the textual tradition represented in Byzantine Greek text of the time rather than that in the Latin Vulgate led to him being viewed with suspicion by some authorities of his church.

The first edition with critical apparatus (variant readings in manuscripts) was produced by the printer Robert Estienne of Paris in 1550. The type of text printed in this edition and in those of Erasmus became known as the Textus Receptus (Latin for "received text"), a name given to it in the Elzevier edition of 1633, which termed it the text nunc ab omnibus receptum ("now received by all"). Upon it, the churches of the Protestant Reformation based their translations into vernacular languages, such as the King James Version.

The discovery of older manuscripts, such as the Codex Sinaiticus and the Codex Vaticanus, led scholars to revise their opinion of this text. Karl Lachmann’s critical edition of 1831, based on manuscripts dating from the fourth century and earlier, was intended primarily to demonstrate that the Textus Receptus must finally be corrected by the earlier texts. Later critical texts are based on further scholarly research and the finding of papyrus fragments, which date in some cases from within a few decades of the composition of the New Testament writings. It is on the basis of these that nearly all modern translations or revisions of older translations have been made, though some still prefer the Textus Receptus or the similar "Byzantine Majority Text".

UNSELFISH LOVE

Unselfish Love
author unknown

John 15:13 KJV
Greater love hath no man than this,
that a man lay down his life for his friends.

At a recent Seattle Special Olympics, nine contestants, all physically or mentally disabled, assembled at the starting line for the 100-yard dash.

At the gun, they all started out, not exactly in a dash, but with a relish to run the race to the finish and win. All, that is, except one little boy who stumbled on the asphalt, tumbled over a couple of times, and began to cry. The other eight heard the boy cry. They slowed down and looked back. Then they all turned around and went back...every one of them. One girl with Down's Syndrome bent down and kissed him and said,"This will make it better." Then all nine linked arms and walked together to the finish line. Everyone in the stadium stood, and the cheering went on for several minutes.

People who were there are still telling the story. Why? Because deep down we know this one thing: What matters in this life is more than winning for ourselves. What matters in this life is helping others win, even if it means slowing down and changing our course, and giving of ourselves for others.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bible Verses to Ponder

1 John 3:16-19 (KJV)
Hereby perceive we the love of God,
because He laid down his life for us:
and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
{17} But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need,
and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him,
how dwelleth the love of God in him?
{18} My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue;
but in deed and in truth.
{19} And hereby we know that we are of the truth,
and shall assure our hearts before him.

1 Cor 13 (KJV)
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels,
and have not charity{Grk=affectionate generousity, unselfish love},
I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
{2} And though I have the gift of prophecy,
and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge;
and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains,
and have not charity, I am nothing.
{3} And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor,
and though I give my body to be burned,
and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

{4} Charity suffereth long, and is kind;
charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
{5} Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own,
is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
{6} Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
{7} Beareth all things, believeth all things,
hopeth all things, endureth all things.
{8} Charity never faileth:
but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail;
whether there be tongues, they shall cease;
whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

{9} For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
{10} But when that which is perfect is come,
then that which is in part shall be done away.
{11} When I was a child, I spake as a child,
I understood as a child, I thought as a child:
but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
{12} For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
{13} And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three;
but the greatest of these is charity.

John 15:8-14 (KJV)
Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit;
so shall ye be my disciples.
{9} As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you:
continue ye in my love{Grk=affectionate generousity, unselfish love}.
{10} If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love;
even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
{11} These things have I spoken unto you,
that my joy might remain in you,
and that your joy might be full.
{12} This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
{13} Greater love hath no man than this,
that a man lay down his life for his friends.
{14} Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

John 10:9-15 (KJV)
I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved,
and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
{10} The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:
I am come that they might have life,
and that they might have it more abundantly.
{11} I am the good shepherd:
the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
{12} But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd,
whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming,
and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth:
and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.
{13} The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling,
and careth not for the sheep.
{14} I am the good shepherd,
and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
{15} As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father:
and I lay down my life for the sheep.

Rom 5:1-12 (KJV)
Therefore being justified by faith,
we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
{2} By whom also we have access by faith into this grace
wherein we stand,
and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
{3} And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also:
knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
{4} And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
{5} And hope maketh not ashamed;
because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts
by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

{6} For when we were yet without strength,
in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
{7} For scarcely for a righteous man will one die:
yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
{8} But God commendeth his love toward us,
in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

{9} Much more then, being now justified by his blood,
we shall be saved from wrath through him.
{10} For if, when we were enemies,
we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son,
much more, being reconciled,
we shall be saved by his life.
{11} And not only so,
but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
by whom we have now received the atonement.
{12} Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world,
and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men,
for that all have sinned:

Eph 4:29-32 (KJV)
Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth,
but that which is good to the use of edifying,
that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
{30} And grieve not the holy Spirit of God,
whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
{31} Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking,
be put away from you, with all malice:
{32} And be ye kind one to another,
tenderhearted, forgiving one another,
even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
{Eph 5:1} Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
{2} And walk in love,
as Christ also hath loved us,
and hath given Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God
for a sweetsmelling savour.

WORD OF WISDOM

Life - generally of physical life (Gen. 2:7; Luke 16:25, etc.); also used figuratively (1) for immortality (Heb. 7:16); (2) conduct or manner of life (Rom. 6:4); (3) spiritual life or salvation (John 3:16, 17, 18, 36); (4) eternal life (Matt. 19:16, 17; John 3:15); of God and Christ as the absolute source and cause of all life (John 1:4; 5:26, 39; 11:25; 12:50).

MAN

Man - (1.) Heb. 'Adam, used as the proper name of the first man. The name is derived from a word meaning "to be red," and thus the first man was called Adam because he was formed from the red earth. It is also the generic name of the human race (Gen. 1:26, 27; 5:2; 8:21; Deut. 8:3). Its equivalents are the Latin homo and the Greek anthropos (Matt. 5:13, 16). It denotes also man in opposition to woman (Gen. 3:12; Matt. 19:10).

(2.) Heb. 'ish, like the Latin vir and Greek aner, denotes properly a man in opposition to a woman (1 Sam. 17:33; Matt. 14:21); a husband (Gen. 3:16; Hos. 2:16); man with reference to excellent mental qualities.

(3.) Heb. 'enosh, man as mortal, transient, perishable (2 Chr. 14:11; Isa. 8:1; Job 15:14; Ps. 8:4; 9:19, 20; 103:15). It is applied to women (Josh. 8:25).

(4.) Heb. geber, man with reference to his strength, as distinguished from women (Deut. 22:5) and from children (Ex. 12:37); a husband (Prov. 6:34).

(5.) Heb. methim, men as mortal (Isa. 41:14), and as opposed to women and children (Deut. 3:6; Job 11:3; Isa. 3:25).

Man was created by the immediate hand of God, and is generically different from all other creatures (Gen. 1:26, 27; 2:7). His complex nature is composed of two elements, two distinct substances, viz., body and soul (Gen. 2:7; Eccl. 12:7; 2 Cor. 5:1-8).

The words translated "spirit" and "soul," in 1 Thess. 5:23, Heb. 4:12, are habitually used interchangeably (Matt. 10:28; 16:26; 1 Pet. 1:22). The "spirit" (Gr. pneuma) is the soul as rational; the "soul" (Gr. psuche) is the same, considered as the animating and vital principle of the body.

Man was created in the likeness of God as to the perfection of his nature, in knowledge (Col. 3:10), righteousness, and holiness (Eph. 4:24), and as having dominion over all the inferior creatures (Gen. 1:28). He had in his original state God's law written on his heart, and had power to obey it, and yet was capable of disobeying, being left to the freedom of his own will. He was created with holy dispositions, prompting him to holy actions; but he was fallible, and did fall from his integrity (3:1-6).

WORD OF WISDOM

Stranger - This word generally denotes a person from a foreign land residing in Palestine. Such persons enjoyed many privileges in common with the Jews, but still were separate from them. The relation of the Jews to strangers was regulated by special laws (Deut. 23:3; 24:14-21; 25:5; 26:10-13). A special signification is also sometimes attached to this word. In Gen. 23:4 it denotes one resident in a foreign land; Ex. 23:9, one who is not a Jew; Num. 3:10, one who is not of the family of Aaron; Ps. 69:8, an alien or an unknown person. The Jews were allowed to purchase strangers as slaves (Lev. 25:44, 45), and to take usury from them (Deut. 23:20).

SOURCE: Easton's Bible Dictionary

PROSELYTE

Is used in the LXX. for "stranger" (1 Chr. 22:2), i.e., a comer to Palestine; a sojourner in the land (Ex. 12:48; 20:10; 22:21), and in the New Testament for a convert to Judaism. There were such converts from early times (Isa. 56:3; Neh. 10:28; Esther 8:17). The law of Moses made specific regulations regarding the admission into the Jewish church of such as were not born Israelites (Ex. 20:10; 23:12; 12:19, 48; Deut. 5:14; 16:11, 14, etc.). The Kenites, the Gibeonites, the Cherethites, and the Pelethites were thus admitted to the privileges of Israelites. Thus also we hear of individual proselytes who rose to positions of prominence in Israel, as of Doeg the Edomite, Uriah the Hittite, Araunah the Jebusite, Zelek the Ammonite, Ithmah and Ebedmelech the Ethiopians.

In the time of Solomon there were one hundred and fifty-three thousand six hundred strangers in the land of Israel (1 Chr. 22:2; 2 Chr. 2:17, 18). And the prophets speak of the time as coming when the strangers shall share in all the privileges of Israel (Ezek. 47:22; Isa. 2:2; 11:10; 56:3-6; Micah 4:1). Accordingly, in New Testament times, we read of proselytes in the synagogues, (Acts 10:2, 7; 13:42, 43, 50; 17:4; 18:7; Luke 7:5). The "religious proselytes" here spoken of were proselytes of righteousness, as distinguished from proselytes of the gate.

The distinction between "proselytes of the gate" (Ex. 20:10) and "proselytes of righteousness" originated only with the rabbis. According to them, the "proselytes of the gate" (half proselytes) were not required to be circumcised nor to comply with the Mosaic ceremonial law. They were bound only to conform to the so-called seven precepts of Noah, viz., to abstain from idolatry, blasphemy, bloodshed, uncleaness, the eating of blood, theft, and to yield obedience to the authorities. Besides these laws, however, they were required to abstain from work on the Sabbath, and to refrain from the use of leavened bread during the time of the Passover.

The "proselytes of righteousness", religious or devout proselytes (Acts 13:43), were bound to all the doctrines and precepts of the Jewish economy, and were members of the synagogue in full communion.

The name "proselyte" occurs in the New Testament only in Matt. 23:15; Acts 2:10; 6:5; 13:43. The name by which they are commonly designated is that of "devout men," or men "fearing God" or "worshipping God."

WORD OF WISDOM

FLESH - In the Old Testament denotes (1) a particular part of the body of man and animals (Genesis 2:21; 41:2; Psalm 102:5, marg.); (2) the whole body (Psalm 16:9); (3) all living things having flesh, and particularly humanity as a whole (Genesis 6:12, 13); (4) mutability and weakness (2 Chronicles 32:8; Comp. Isaiah 31:3; Psalm 78:39). As suggesting the idea of softness it is used in the expression "heart of flesh" (Ezek. 11:19). The expression "my flesh and bone" (Judges 9:2; Isaiah 58:7) denotes relationship.

In the New Testament, besides these it is also used to denote the sinful element of human nature as opposed to the "Spirit" (Romans 6:19; Matthew 16:17). Being "in the flesh" means being unrenewed (Romans 7:5; 8:8, 9), and to live "according to the flesh" is to live and act sinfully (Romans 8:4, 5, 7, 12).

This word also denotes the human nature of Christ (John 1:14, "The Word was made flesh." Comp. also 1 Timothy 3:16; Romans 1:3).

FAITH OF JESUS

Last night as I was reading on the study of faith and how we use it in our day-to-day life’s, it crossed my mind what of the faith of Jesus. We know that Jesus was born of a woman and that He lived as a man on this earth. We also know that He grew strong in the Lord. He had faith.
How do we begin to compare His faith to ours? That kind of struck me. It is hard to begin to imagine having that kind of faith. But it is the faith that we are to have. It is easy to believe it for Him and of Him, but not for me myself.

Who am I hurting? Myself, of course, because I am telling God that I do not believe His word. OUCH! That hurt and hurt bad. It made me realize that first I needed to ask God’s forgiveness and to forgive myself also. And then to ask God how do I step into a realm of believing that what belonged to Christ can and does belong to me. The Bible tells us that if we seek we shall find and if we ask the door will be opened. I have asked for Him to open that door for me. And the main reason why is because without faith we are dead while yet alive.

As the thoughts came to me last night and as I pondered them, I thought of the faith that Christ had. He had enough faith to believe that if he died on that cross He would be raised up again. We know from the Bible that God could not look on sin and Jesus took all sin that ever was or ever would be and still at this moment has not been completed and took it on Himself. Knowing that God would have to turn from Him, unable to look upon Him. That my dear sweet people is faith at the fullest, how can we know that and expect or settle for any less then believing that He will do for us what He said He would do. Think on that for a bit.

Pray with me, Heavenly Father I am seeking and want the faith that You desire for me to have in my life. Open this door for me Lord, help me with my unbelief, and bless me with faith. In Your mighty Name Amen. So Be It.

God Bless

WORD OF WISDOM

TIRES - "To tire" the head is to adorn it (2 Kings 9:30). As a noun the word is derived from "tiara," and is the rendering of the Hebrews p'er, a "turban" or an ornament for the head (Ezek. 24:17; R.V., "headtire;24:23). In Isaiah 3:18 the word saharonim is rendered "round tires like the moon," and in Judges 8:21, 26 "ornaments," but in both cases "crescents" in the Revised Version.

WORD OF WISDOM

REPENTANCE - There are three Greek words used in the New Testament to denote repentance.

(1.) The verb metamelomai is used of a change of mind, such as to produce regret or even remorse on account of sin, but not necessarily a change of heart. This word is used with reference to the repentance of Judas (Matthew 27:3).

(2.) Metanoeo, meaning to change one's mind and purpose, as the result of after knowledge. This verb, with (3) the cognate noun metanoia, is used of true repentance, a change of mind and purpose and life, to which remission of sin is promised.

Evangelical repentance consists of (1) a true sense of one's own guilt and sinfulness; (2) an apprehension of God's mercy in Christ; (3) an actual hatred of sin (Psalm 119:128; Job 42:5, 6; 2 Corinthians 7:10) and turning from it to God; and (4) a persistent endeavour after a holy life in a walking with God in the way of his commandments.

The true penitent is conscious of guilt (Psalm 51:4, 9), of pollution (51:5, 7, 10), and of helplessness (51:11; 109:21, 22). Thus he apprehends himself to be just what God has always seen him to be and declares him to be. But repentance comprehends not only such a sense of sin, but also an apprehension of mercy, without which there can be no true repentance (Psalm 51:1; 130:4).

A CONSCIENCE VOID

Acts 24:16
And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void to offence toward God, and toward men.

This shows there will be a resurrection to a final judgment. Prophets and their doctrines were to be tried by their fruits. Paul's aim was to have a conscience void of offence. His care and endeavour was to abstain from many things, and to abound in the exercises of religion at all times; both towards God. and towards man.

Romans 9:1
I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,

He speaks as in the presence of Christ, with a conscience enlightened by the Holy Spirit.

Being about to discuss the rejection of the Jews and the calling of the Gentiles, and to show that the whole agrees with the sovereign electing love of God, the apostle expresses strongly his affection for his people. He solemnly appeals to Christ; and his conscience, enlightened and directed by the Holy Spirit, bore witness to his sincerity.

2 Corinthians 1:12
For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.

He could boast that in his conduct everywhere, and at Corinth as well, he had acted with purity of purpose, integrity, and under the guidance of God. He appeals to his singleness of purpose, because a charge had been made against him.

I am conscious of my integrity. Even in the deepest adversity,no matter what others think. Having one end in view, aiming singly at the glory of God. Without any tincture of guile, dissimulation, or disguise. Not with carnal wisdom, but by the grace of God - Not by natural, but divine, wisdom.

Though, as a sinner, the apostle could only rejoice and glory in Christ Jesus, yet, as a believer, he might rejoice and glory in being really what he professed. Conscience witnesses concerning the steady course and tenor of the life. Thereby we may judge ourselves, and not by this or by that single act. Our conversation will be well ordered, when we live and act under such a gracious principle in the heart. Having this, we may leave our characters in the Lord's hands, but using proper means to clear them, when the credit of the gospel, or our usefulness, calls for it.

Hebrews 13:18
Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.

He refers to his uprightness of life perhaps because he had been arrested as an evil doer in Jerusalem (Acts 21:33 24:5).

A good conscience has respect to all God's commands, and all our duty. Those who have this good conscience, yet need the prayers of others.

1 Timothy 1:5, 19
(5) Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

There is neither love without a good conscience, nor a good conscience without faith, nor faith without the word of God.

The foundation is faith; the end, love. But this can only subsist in an heart purified by faith, and is always attended with a good conscience.

Whatever tends to weaken love to God, or love to the brethren, tends to defeat the end of the commandment. The design of the gospel is answered, when sinners, through repentance towards God and faith in Jesus Christ, are brought to exercise Christian love.

(19) Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:

Whoever does not keep a good conscience, loses also by little and little, the gift of understanding.

Faith is an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast (Heb 6:19).

May all who are tempted to put away a good conscience, and to abuse the gospel, remember that this is the way to make shipwreck of faith also. These, therefore, were once true believers: yet they fell not only foully, but finally; for ships once wrecked cannot be afterwards saved.

1 Peter 3:21
The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

The conscience being sanctified, may freely call upon God. Through the water of baptism we are saved from the sin which overwhelms the world as a flood: not, indeed, the bare outward sign, but the inward grace; a divine consciousness that both our persons and our actions are accepted through him who died and rose again for us. The soul seeking the forgiveness of sins inquires What shall I do to remove the sense of unforgiven sins and make my conscience void of offense? The answer is Repent and be baptized.

The three things essential to a pure and holy love are:
(1) A pure heart;
(2) a good conscience;
(3) sincere faith.

WORD OF WISDOM

HATRED - Among the works of the flesh (Galatians 5:20). Altogether different is the meaning of the word in Deuteronomy 21:15; Matthew 6:24; Luke 14:26; Romans 9:13, where it denotes only a less degree of love.

SUNDAY EDITORIAL

1 Corn 13:4
Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

The love of God, and of our neighbour for God's sake, is patient toward, all men. It, suffers all the weakness, ignorance, errors, and infirmities of the children of God; all the malice and wickedness of the children of the world: and all this, not only for a time, but to the end. And in every step toward overcoming evil with good, it is kind, soft, mild, benign. It inspires the sufferer at once with the most amiable sweetness, and the most fervent and tender affection. Love acteth not rashly - Does not hastily condemn any one; never passes a severe sentence on a slight or sudden view of things. Nor does it ever act or behave in a violent, headstrong, or precipitate manner. Is not puffed up - Yea, humbles the soul to the dust.

Some of the effects of charity are stated, that we may know whether we have this grace; and that if we have not, we may not rest till we have it. This love is a clear proof of regeneration, and is a touchstone of our professed faith in Christ. In this beautiful description of the nature and effects of love, it is meant to show the Corinthians that their conduct had, in many respects, been a contrast to it. Charity is an utter enemy to selfishness; it does not desire or seek its own praise, or honour, or profit, or pleasure. Not that charity destroys all regard to ourselves, or that the charitable man should neglect himself and all his interests. But charity never seeks its own to the hurt of others, or to neglect others. It ever prefers the welfare of others to its private advantage. How good-natured and amiable is Christian charity! How excellent would Christianity appear to the world, if those who profess it were more under this Divine principle, and paid due regard to the command on which its blessed Author laid the chief stress! Let us ask whether this Divine love dwells in our hearts. Has this principle guided us into becoming behaviour to all men? Are we willing to lay aside selfish objects and aims? Here is a call to watchfulness, diligence, and prayer.

Col 2:18
Let no man beguile (rob) you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,

One feature of the heresy against which Paul warned them was angel worship. Angel worship, the worship of saints, dead or living, of pope, or any created thing, is forbidden. Worship God, said the angel before whom John bowed (Re 19:10). Church history states that at a later period Michael the archangel was worshiped.

Out of pretended humility, they worshipped angels, as not daring to apply immediately to God. Yet this really sprung from their being puffed up: (the constant forerunner of a fall, Prov 16:18 Pride [goeth] before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.) so far was it from being an instance of true humility.

It looked like humility to apply to angels, as if men were conscious of their unworthiness to speak directly to God. But it is not warrantable; it is taking that honour which is due to Christ only, and giving it to a creature. There really was pride in this seeming humility. Those who worship angels, disclaim Christ, who is the only Mediator between God and man. It is an insult to Christ, who is the Head of the church, to use any intercessors but him. When men let go their hold of Christ, they catch at what will stand them in no stead. The body of Christ is a growing body. And true believers cannot live in the fashions of the world. True wisdom is, to keep close to the appointments of the gospel; in entire subjection to Christ, who is the only Head of his church. The whole tended, in a wrong manner, to satisfy the carnal mind, by gratifying self-will, self-wisdom, self-righteousness, and contempt of others. The things being such as carry not with them so much as the show of wisdom; or so faint a show that they do the soul no good, and provide not for the satisfying of the flesh. Remembering the passing nature of earthly things, let us seek to glorify God in the use of them.

So today while you were in Church, did you look around at the people and wonder if they had any major illness that you don't know anything about. Were you afraid they may breathe on you? Did you like the way they weredressed? Are you thinking about calling the Preacher and having him go ask these people who don't meet your approval to leave the church? Or not to let this one or that one take part in any of the Church programs? Have you called your friends to gossip about all these people? Oh my, how in the world did you hear what the Preacher was saying?

But then I suppose some may feel that they already know all there is to know and don't need to learn any more. Then we wonder why Christians looked so bad in the sight of others. We are so busy looking at every one else that we forget that we are really the ones that need to hear and learn. Were you so busy thinking about how bad others are dressed and being too proud of all of your fine garments to remember that it isn't the outward appearances that we should be concerned about?

Where in the Bible does it say that these people need yours, mine or anyone else's approval in order to get into the Circle of Christ. Instead of wondering and looking down on others or even being concerned about health issues why don't we try thinking on the only issue that is really important, THE WORD OF GOD.

Let's start remembering that the only one we should be looking at is OURSELVES. They have what God wants them to have at this time, just as you or I do as well. One final thought, look at Prov 16:18, it plainly states "pride goes before destruction...haughty spirit before a fall." Destruction and a fall will surely happen, it may be at the death that the fall into the pit occurs or maybe even in our life time, only God knows when it will happen.

Let us get over all the worldly cares and concerns and focus on the World God has promised each of us who apply His words to OUR lives.

God's Blessings to each of you,

WORD OF WISDOM

Do not be too quick to condemn the man who no longer believes in
God: for it is perhaps your own coldness and avarice and
mediocrity and materialism and selfishness that have chilled his
faith.

CHRISTIAN WAYS TO REDUCE STRESS

An Angel says, "Never borrow from the future. If you worry about what may happen tomorrow and it doesn't happen, you have worried in vain. Even if it does happen, you have to worry twice."

1. Pray

2. Go to bed on time.

3. Get up on time so you can start the day unrushed.

4. Say No to projects that won't fit into your time schedule, or that will compromise your mental health.

5. Delegate tasks to capable others.

6. Simplify and unclutter your life.

7. Less is more. (Although one is often not enough, two are often too many.)

8. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places.

9. Pace yourself. Spread out big changes and difficult projects over time; don't lump the hard things all together.

10. Take one day at a time.

11. Separate worries from concerns. If a situation is a concern, find out what God would have you do and let go of the anxiety. If you can't do anything about a situation, forget it .

12. Live within your budget; don't use credit cards for ordinary purchases.

13. Have backups; an extra car key in your wallet, an extra house key buried in the garden, extra stamps, etc.

14. K.M.S. (Keep Mouth Shut). This single piece of advice can prevent an enormous amount of trouble.

15. Do something for the Kid in You everyday.

16. Carry a Bible with you to read while waiting in line.

17. Get enough rest.

18. Eat right.

19. Get organized so everything has its place.

20. Listen to a tape while driving that can help improve your quality of life.

21. Write down thoughts and inspirations.

22. Every day, find time to be alone.

23. Having problems? Talk to God on the spot. Try to nip small problems in the bud. Don't wait until it's time to go to bed to try and pray.

24. Make friends with GODLY people.

25. Keep a folder of favorite scriptures on hand.

26. Remember that the shortest bridge between despair and hope is often a good "Thank you Jesus."

27. Laugh.

28. Laugh some more!

29. Take your work seriously, but not yourself at all.

30. Develop a forgiving attitude (most people are doing the best they can).

31. Be kind to unkind people (they probably need it the most).

32. Sit on your ego.

33. Talk less; listen more.

34. Slow down.

35. Remind yourself that you are not the general manager of the universe.

36 . Every night before bed, think of one thing you're grateful for that you've never been grateful for before.

GOD HAS A WAY OF TURNING THINGS AROUND FOR YOU. "If God is for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31)

Did you like the way they were dressed?

WORD OF WISDOM

WITNESS - (Romans 8:16), the consciousness of the gracious operation of the Spirit on the mind, "a certitude of the Spirit's presence and work continually asserted within us", manifested "in his comforting us, his stirring us up to prayer, his reproof of our sins, his drawing us to works of love, to bear testimony before the world," etc.

THE DECEITFUL HEART

While sitting here thinking on what God wanted written, the word conscience came to my mind. You know that wee small voice that tells us when we are doing something wrong. Sometimes we listen and repent and sometimes it will take us a while to repent. Then there are those who never listen nor repent. It is something we feel in our whole body. So, after doing some searching in the scripture, I realized that it is more rightly called a deceitful heart. Here are a few comments regarding conscience and the deceitful heart:

Jeremiah 17:9
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Because the wicked always have some excuse to defend their doings he shows that their own lewd imaginations deceive them and bring them to these hardships: but God will examine their deeds by the malice of their hearts, 1Sa 16:7,1Ch 28:9,Ps 7:10,Jer 11:20,10:12,Re 2:13.
There is nothing so false and deceitful as the heart of man; deceitful in its apprehensions of things, in the hopes and promises which it nourishes, in the assurances that it gives us; unsearchable by others, deceitful with reference to ourselves, and abominably wicked, so that neither can a man know his own heart, nor can any other know that of his neighbour's.
The heart, the conscience of man, in his corrupt and fallen state, is deceitful above all things. It calls evil good, and good evil; and cries peace to those to whom it does not belong. Herein the heart is desperately wicked; it is deadly, it is desperate. The case is bad indeed, if the conscience, which should set right the errors of other faculties, is a leader in the delusion. We cannot know our own hearts, nor what they will do in an hour of temptation. Who can understand his errors? Much less can we know the hearts of others, or depend upon them. He that believes God's testimony in this matter, and learns to watch his own heart, will find this is a correct, though a sad picture, and learns many lessons to direct his conduct. But much in our own hearts and in the hearts of others, will remain unknown. Yet whatever wickedness there is in the heart, God sees it.

Romans 2:15
Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and [their] thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)

This knowledge is a natural knowledge.
Such Gentiles, not having the law, are a law to themselves, for they show forth in their lives that the essential principles of the law are written in their hearts. Not only do their outward acts testify, but their conscience, which condemn or approve their own acts, or those of others. That is, their consciences testify as to distinctions between right and wrong. They have a moral sense.
There is none of all its faculties which the soul has less in its power than this.
The human will is in a state of enmity against God. Even Gentiles, who had not the written law, had that within, which directed them what to do by the light of nature. Conscience is a witness, and first or last will bear witness. As they mature. Conscience is a witness, and first or last will bear witness. As they kept or broke these natural laws and dictates, their consciences either acquitted or condemned them. Nothing speaks more terror to sinners, and more comfort to saints, than that Christ shall be the Judge. Secret services shall be rewarded, secret sins shall be then punished, and brought to light.

I Corn 10:28-29
28) But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof:

If some one points out that a part is from an idol's sacrifice, then it is not to be eaten; not because the food is sinful, but because the conscience of others might be offended.
That is, for the sake of his weak conscience, lest it should be wounded.
There were cases wherein Christians might eat what had been offered to idols, without sin. Such as when the flesh was sold in the market as common food, for the priest to whom it had been given. But a Christian must not merely consider what is lawful, but what is expedient, and to edify others. Christianity by no means forbids the common offices of kindness, or allows uncourteous behaviour to any, however they may differ from us in religious sentiments or practices. But this is not to be understood of religious festivals, partaking in idolatrous worship. According to this advice of the apostle, Christians should take care not to use their liberty to the hurt of others, or to their own reproach. In eating and drinking, and in all we do, we should aim at the glory of God, at pleasing and honouring Him. This is the great end of all religion, and directs us where express rules are wanting. A holy, peaceable, and benevolent spirit, will disarm the greatest enemies.

29) Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience?

For we must take heed that our liberty is not spoken of as evil, and that the benefit of God which we ought to use with thanksgiving is not changed into impiety. And this is through our fault, if we choose rather to offend the conscience of the weak, than to yield a little of our liberty in a matter of no importance, and so give occasion to the weak to judge in such sort of us, and of Christian liberty. And the apostle takes these things upon his own person, that the Corinthians may have so much the less occasion to oppose anything against Him.
When one eats what he knows to be simply wholesome food, his own conscience is not offended, but that of another man.
His liberty of conscience is not abridged by another man's want of knowledge.

I Corn 8:7
Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.

There are many men who do not know that which you know. Now the judgment of outward things depend not only upon your conscience, but upon the conscience of those that behold you, and therefore your actions must be applied not only to your knowledge, but also to the ignorance of your brethren.
There are many who cannot eat of things offered to idols, except with a wavering conscience, because they think them to be unclean. Therefore if by your example they wish to do that which inwardly they think displeases God, their conscience is defiled with this eating, and you have been the occasion of this mischief.
By conscience of the idol, he means the secret judgment that they had within themselves, by which they thought all things unclean that were offered to idols, and therefore they could not use them with good conscience. For conscience has this power, that if it is good, it makes indifferent things good, and if it is evil, it makes them evil.
While we, the better informed, know better, still there were some in the church who had not entirely outgrown their former superstitions. They could not realize that an idol was nothing (1Co 8:4).
Eating one kind of food, and abstaining from another, have nothing in them to recommend a person to God. But the apostle cautions against putting a stumbling-block in the way of the weak; lest they be made bold to eat what was offered to the idol, not as common food, but as a sacrifice, and thereby be guilty of idolatry. He who has the Spirit of Christ in him, will love those whom Christ loved so as to die for them. Injuries done to Christians, are done to Christ; but most of all, the entangling them in guilt: wounding their consciences, is wounding Him. We should be very tender of doing any thing that may occasion stumbling to others, though it may be innocent in itself. And if we must not endanger other men's souls, how much should we take care not to destroy our own! Let Christians beware of approaching the brink of evil, or the appearance of it, though many do this in public matters, for which perhaps they plead plausibly. Men cannot thus sin against their brethren, without offending Christ, and endangering their own souls.

1 Corn 8:10
For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;

In the heathen temples, great banquets often followed the sacrifice. That a weaker Christian should see a stronger one, a leader, sitting at such a banquet, would lead him to believe that his brother was honoring the idol. The example would encourage idolatry.
Whom he believes to have more knowledge than himself, and who really hast this knowledge, that an idol is nothing - sitting down to an entertainment in an idol temple.
Will not the conscience of him that is weak - Scrupulous. Be encouraged - By thy example. To eat - Though with a doubting conscience.

1 Timothy 4:2
Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

Even though heretics pretend holiness ever so much, yet they have no conscience.
Whose conscience became so hard, that there grew a callous over it, and so became to have a canker in it, and now at length required by very necessity to be burned with a hot iron.
The sensitiveness of their consciences is destroyed by the brand of the devil.
These will depart from the faith, by the hypocrisy of them that speak lies, having their own consciences as senseless and unfeeling as flesh that is seared with an hot iron.
The Holy Spirit, both in the Old and the New Testament, spoke of a general turning from the faith of Christ, and the pure worship of God. This should come during the Christian dispensation, for those are called the latter days. False teachers forbid as evil what God has allowed, and command as a duty what He has left indifferent. We find exercise for watchfulness and self-denial, in attending to the requirements of God's law, without being tasked to imaginary duties, which reject what He has allowed. But nothing justifies an intemperate or improper use of things; and nothing will be good to us, unless we seek by prayer for the Lord's blessing upon it.

Titus 1:15
Unto the pure all things [are] pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving [is] nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

He shows in few words, that purity consists not in any external worship, and that which is according to the old Law (as indifference of meats, and washings, and other such things which are abolished) but in the mind and conscience. And whoever teaches otherwise, does not know what true religion really is, and also is not to be heeded.
If our minds and consciences are unclean, what cleanness is there in us before regeneration?
In the Jewish fables just referred to (Titus 1:14) were rigid regulations concerning foods and purifications. Hence Paul adds, It is not food that makes one impure. To the pure all things are pure. When one is unbelieving and defiled, no food can make him pure.
The apostle joins defiled and unbelieving, to intimate that nothing can be clean without a true faith: for both the understanding and conscience, those leading powers of the soul, are polluted; consequently, so is the man and all he does.
And though there may be national differences of character, yet the heart of man in every age and place is deceitful and desperately wicked. But the sharpest reproofs must aim at the good of the reproved; and soundness in the faith is most desirable and necessary. To those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure; they abuse, and turn things lawful and good into sin. Many profess to know God, yet in their lives deny and reject Him. See the miserable state of hypocrites, such as have a form of godliness, but are without the power; yet let us not be so ready to fix this charge on others, as careful that it does not apply to ourselves.

I Peter 2:19
For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.

Because he makes a conscience of it, to offend God, by whose good will and appointment he knows this burden is laid upon him.
If a man suffers wrong for conscience sake, God notes his suffering and approves of his conduct.
What glory or distinction could it be, for professed Christians to be patient when corrected for their faults? But if when they behaved well they were ill treated by proud and passionate heathen masters, yet bore it without peevish complaints, or purposes of revenge, and persevered in their duty, this would be acceptable to God as a distinguishing effect of His grace, and would be rewarded by Him. Christ's death was designed not only for an example of patience under sufferings, but He bore our sins; He bore the punishment of them, and thereby satisfied Divine justice. Hereby He takes them away from us. The fruits of Christ's sufferings are the death of sin, and a new holy life of righteousness; for both which we have an example, and powerful motives, and ability to perform also, from the death and resurrection of Christ. And our justification; Christ was bruised and crucified as a sacrifice for our sins, and by His stripes the diseases of our souls are cured. Here is man's sin; he goes astray; it is his own act. His misery; he goes astray from the pasture, from the Shepherd, and from the flock, and so exposes himself to dangers without number.

WORD OF WISDOM

FLOWERS - Very few species of flowers are mentioned in the Bible although they abounded in Palestine. It has been calculated that in Western Syria and Palestine from two thousand to two thousand five hundred plants are found, of which about five hundred probably are British wild-flowers. Their beauty is often alluded to (Cant. 2:12; Matthew 6:28). They are referred to as affording an emblem of the transitory nature of human life (Job 14:2; Psalm 103:15; Isaiah 28:1; 40:6; James 1:10). Gardens containing flowers and fragrant herbs are spoken of (Cant. 4:16; 6:2).

TONIGHT WE SAY GOODBYE

to a former first Lady. Namely Lady Bird Johnson who was 94.

She accomplished a lot in her life and has had a lot of good said about her. But nothing has been said if she knew Jesus. I pray she did.

It really breaks my heart to think of someone dying without ever having know our Precious Savior. But, like rECj keeps telling me, not everyone is going to be saved and go to Heaven. What a shame they wouldn't listen and accept Him. What a shame they didn't know, like I like a Preacher on TV say one time, "there ain't no exit signs in the pit."

Let's all join together to pray for the family in their time of loss.

God's Blessing to each of you,

VOWS - Voluntary promises which, when once made, were to be kept if the thing vowed was right. They were made under a great variety of circumstances (Genesis 28: 18-22; Leviticus 7:16; Numbers 30:2-13; Deuteronomy 23:18; Judges 11:30, 39; 1 Samuel 1:11; Jonah 1:16; Acts 18:18; 21:23).

A DADDY SPEAKS OUT

Seek the Lord while He may be fouund!
Guess our national leaders didn't expect this, hmm? On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton , Colorado , was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful.

They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness. The following is a portion of the transcript:

"Since the dawn of creation there has been both good &evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers.

"The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain's heart.

"In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA - because I don't believe that they are responsib le for my daughter's death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel's murder I would be their strongest opponent.

I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy -- it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best.

Your laws ignore our deepest needs,
Your words are empty air.
You've stripped away our heritage,
You've outlawed simple prayer.
Now gunshots fill our classrooms,
And precious children die.
You seek for answers everywhere,
And ask the question "Why?"
You regulate restrictive laws,
Through legislative creed.
And yet you fail to understand,
That God is what we need!

"Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges began as the ological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine's tragedy occurs -- politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws. Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.

"As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right ! I challenge every young person in America , and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA -- I give to you a sincere challenge. Dare to examine your own heart before casting the first stone!

My daughter's death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!"

Do what the media did not - - let the nation hear this man's speech.. Please send this out to everyone you can.

I have heard this daddy say just about the same thing a couple of times on TV.

WORD OF WISDOM

Hypocrite - One who puts on a mask and feigns himself to be what he is not; a dissembler in religion. Our Lord severely rebuked the scribes and Pharisees for their hypocrisy (Matthew 6:2, 5, 16). "The hypocrite's hope shall perish" (Job 8:13). The Hebrew word here rendered "hypocrite" rather means the "godless" or "profane," as it is rendered in Jeremiah 23:11, i.e., polluted with crimes.

WE ARE LIVING IN THE DARK AGES

Matthew 18:6
But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and [that] he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

Mark 9:42
And whosoever shall offend one of [these] little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.

Luke 17:2
It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.

We need to study, seek, find and understand what is going on around us before we start jumping to conclusions about the health problems facing us today.

This morning I read on AOL, as many of you did, there or elsewhere, about the HIV/AIDS boy that was banned from this RV park in Alabama. I'm really surprised that the owners didn't burn the place to the ground when they found out the foster dad has cancer. Do you think this is a way of getting free advertisement?

Now, the informed of these dark ages, know that you cannot get HIV/AIDS from drinking, eating, swimming or even if he was to throw up on you, you ain't going to become infected. Even if they should just happen to bleed on you, the only way you will become infected is if you have an open sore or wound. Think about this, if they sneeze on or around you, you still won't become infected.

One person left a comment that "those people should be quarantined" like we used to do to those with infectious diseases. So, I am going to offer a suggestion to each of you, from now on if a person has a cold, the flu, a kidney infection, a lung disease, cancer, asthma, hepatitis, pregnant, an ingrown toe nail, ear ache, sore throat, eye infection and all other forms of diseases should be banned from all public places, including the work place and should immediately be quarantine until their doctor or the State Health Agency gives them a clean bill of health. Let's not forget to wear our masks when we go out. The air borne diseases are lurking out there, just waiting on you to step outside the door.

Can you just imagine the surprise in store for these narrow minded, uninformed folks if they know just how many people were walking around with HIV/AIDS? What a mess the work places would be in if the employers were to ask everyone to supply a health statement about their hidden diseases.

I know my next statement is going to be a surprise to a lot of people but it needs to be said, how do you think these precious children got this dreaded disease? From their unloving, uncaring, selfish, inconsiderate PARENTS. These children did not just pop out and say "ok folks now I will become infected with HIV/AIDS." How come no one wants to go after the parents who caused this to happen or have them being banned, quarantine or tarred and feathered? Oh no we mustn't say anything to the adults, we might offend them or thread on their civil rights. The children have no rights apparently.

Before we know it the ACLU will be rounding up all these children and shipping them off to an underground cave somewhere so the world will be protected.

I bet you never think about your coworkers, the employees at your favorite eating establishment, the doctor, the dentist, the shoe employee, the grocery store employees or any public place you frequent having the HIV/AID virus.

You know what else is so very sad? A lot of these narrow minded, uninformed, uneducated people are professing Christians. They don't want a child around them with this virus, but they will hug and just carry on with someone who has an airborne disease. Hypocrites. They will have a lot to answer for when it comes to talking with God over the children.

I believe the greatest commandment Jesus left with us is LOVE. Please don't use that word and turn right around and reject an innocent child. There can't be any Godly LOVE in anyone who is willing to turn their backs on children. Makes me think there ain't a lot of Bible reading going on anymore. The following scripture describes so many people so well:

Job 41:24
His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the nether [millstone].

Reckon when some of these people are going to wake up and realize that we now are living in a world that has inside toilets, running water and even electric lights? Yes, computers even. So flip a switch, turn on the lights and get a grip on what is really going on around you. Stop being one of the "dark age people."

God's Blessings to each of you,
